Is Jesus the reason for the season? Will you celebrate too commercial Christmas and very cultural Kwanzaa? Only Christmas? Only Kwanzaa? Hanukkah? Neither, none or something else? I do not see a conflict so since 1980, I have also celebrated Kwanzaa, as well as the less commercial aspects of Christmas! Since 2010, I have also started recognizing January 1st (instead of Juneteenth) as a better time to celebrate Independence Day for African-Americans. Why? Because that was the day that Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect (January 1, 1863). How about you?

I have always found it reprehensible and contrary to the pride and well being of a people to celebrate what someone else did to that group of people rather than what that group has done for itself.

Before I answer this question, i believe we need to have the discussion about who Jesus really was.

My wife and I never let our children believe an obese Caucasian in a red suit brought gifts to our house; it would have been the same if he were supposedly Black. It was always mom and dad. That being said we tried to provide what they needed on a year round basis and not just during the commercial season. The Christmas season was a time to celebrate the birth of Christ and an opportunity to be with family and friends.

Today is December 17th and I have yet to buy one gift. Am I wrong for this?
