What would you say to a new relative?

This month I met a remarkable relative, 91 year-old Mrs. Alberta Penn Stallings of Hayward, California. When you meet a relative for the first time that you never knew existed (as I did), what would you say to her or him? What could you learn from her or him? What would it mean to you? For family?

The Reynolds Family Connecting...

In March 2014, led by the vision of Tuan Reynolds of Roanoke, VA, and others, the Reynolds side of the family started a Reynolds Family page on Facebook. Pictured left are the family patriarch (Tazwell Reynolds, born in 1862 in Franklin County, VA) and the matriarch (Mariah Guerrant Reynolds, born in in 1863 in Franklin County, VA). They were wed in 1885. They were born when Abraham Lincoln was U.S. president. Today their descendants are productive and nationwide. To the members and friends of the family, what has the experience now been like connecting or re-connecting with family on the Reynolds Family page (and beyond)?

Did you say "I love you" before it was too late?

Think about a friend or relative who passed recently or in the last year or two or who just moved far away (or is very ill), did you get a chance to tell that person that you loved him or her? Or did you miss that chance? I hope you did not miss that chance. Please don't miss this or the next chance.

What do family reunions mean to you?

Congratulations to the entire Hylton-Joyce family for keeping the family tradition alive in 2013.  This year the family reunion took place in August in Charlotte, North Carolina.  The next family reunion will be in 2015 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  Pictured left are cousins; Shevonne Martin, Leartis Martin and Yazmin Price.  More reunion photos will be posted shortly.

This month's question: If you attended the reunion, what were one or two highlights?  If you were not able to attend (KOH is guilty), do you plan to attend in 2015?

Is Jesus still the reason for the season?

Is Jesus the reason for the season? Will you celebrate too commercial Christmas and very cultural Kwanzaa? Only Christmas? Only Kwanzaa? Hanukkah? Neither, none or something else? I do not see a conflict so since 1980, I have also celebrated Kwanzaa, as well as the less commercial aspects of Christmas! Since 2010, I have also started recognizing January 1st (instead of Juneteenth) as a better time to celebrate Independence Day for African-Americans. Why? Because that was the day that Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation went into effect (January 1, 1863). How about you?

Feel free to leave comments (even corrections) on any of these posts (old and current ones) at any time.

If we don't record our family history, it gets lost.  Your comments are important.

I will do periodic posts, but this blog is really an open forum for visitors to this site.

Although this website was created by moi (Keith Orlando Hilton), I prefer that it now be ran by a committee of relatives. Interested? Especially young computer savvy young people.
