To mothers, grandmothers and aunts (only) reading this, at some point most or many of your daughters, granddaughters, nieces and/or little sisters or cousins, etc. will consider becoming mothers. What positive pointers would you give them about this important role?

In March 2014, led by the vision of Tuan Reynolds of Roanoke, VA, and others, the Reynolds side of the family started a Reynolds Family page on Facebook. Pictured left are the family patriarch (Tazwell Reynolds, born in 1862 in Franklin County, VA) and the matriarch (Mariah Guerrant Reynolds, born in in 1863 in Franklin County, VA). They were wed in 1885. They were born when Abraham Lincoln was U.S. president. Today their descendants are productive and nationwide. To the members and friends of the family, what has the experience now been like connecting or re-connecting with family on the Reynolds Family page (and beyond)? http://roanokerelatives.weebly.com/clarence-c-reynolds.html This is a two-part college basketball question: (1) Before all the action begins, I would like you to pick 2 of the 4 teams that you believe will be in the Final Four this year. Each region of the country has a few strong contenders. (2) I know that I am in the minority on the following, but hey, I will say it anyway; "I think this is March Sadness for African-American college basketball players, because this time of year is the apex of their exploitation!" There I said, but anyway, is this "March Madness, March Sadness or March Badness" time for college basketball? It is okay to disagree with me on either or both of these. I would just like to know your takes on these 2 quick questions. Thanks. Are there more doctors in our family? If so, please let me know by posting a comment or two on our family blog page. I had a very nice conversation with LeQuan Hylton of Richmond, Virginia (January 2014), and have now added him to the list. He is working on his doctorate at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond. No, everyone does not need to be a doctor, but at least our youth need to know they have options and role models. By the way, does anyone know the difference between a doctoral student and a doctoral candidate? Thoughts about this post and the importance of education? http://roanokerelatives.weebly.com/doctors-in-the-family.html I was having a discussion with a friend recently and he commented on the belief that fewer young people, and in particular young men, are in Church today. This caused me to wonder about something. When you were growing up, was your minister, pastor (or Imam) also very visible in your community or did he (or she) primarily stay in the pulpit? Think about a friend or relative who passed recently or in the last year or two or who just moved far away (or is very ill), did you get a chance to tell that person that you loved him or her? Or did you miss that chance? I hope you did not miss that chance. Please don't miss this or the next chance. Congratulations to the entire Hylton-Joyce family for keeping the family tradition alive in 2013. This year the family reunion took place in August in Charlotte, North Carolina. The next family reunion will be in 2015 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Pictured left are cousins; Shevonne Martin, Leartis Martin and Yazmin Price. More reunion photos will be posted shortly. This month's question: If you attended the reunion, what were one or two highlights? If you were not able to attend (KOH is guilty), do you plan to attend in 2015? Family and friends, when you hear about the famous 1963 March on Washington, how do you feel?8/2/2013 How are you going to celebrate the 50th anniversary of this historic event? Depending on which side of the coin you find yourself, it is also important to recall that Malcolm X called this very same historic event "the Farce on Washington". August 28 is a very special day in American, world and African history. |
